History:

Quarried in stone-pits that date back to the Early Cretaceous period, 80-90 million years ago. Bulgarian limestone has been quarried for over a hundred years now with a history of use throughout the Danube region.

Colour / Texture:

A dense compact ivory white stone with occasional light veining. The surface is smooth and slightly polished. Bulgarian Yellow is also available, this is a parchment yellow-white colour.

Character:

Elegant, understated limestone that is characteristically clean in colour with very faint black specs (iron deposits, a measure of the stones’ hardness). Ideal for formal entrance areas. It also lends itself to contemporary schemes when used in a large tile format and without cabochons (square inserts).

Points to note:

  1. This is the only white limestone tile that we would recommend for a kitchen, being durable and extremely hard.
  2. Available in slabs up to 60 x 120 x 2 cm (24” x 48” x ¾”) and up to 100 x 200 x 3 cm (40” x 80” x 1-¼”)
  3. The tiles are normally wet when they arrive and will therefore lighten considerably as they dry out.
  4. White thin bed adhesive must be used to bed these tiles as other colours can leech into the edge of the stone.

Usage:

Interiors and exterior flooring as well as architectural details/facings and sculptures.
